Behavioural assessment is a cornerstone of early childhood education, offering deep insights into children’s development and social interactions. SEGi College Kuala Lumpur’s Faculty of Education, Languages, Psychology, and Music prioritises this crucial aspect, as demonstrated by the recent practical training session for Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE) students at Tadika Mukmin Junior LP8, Selangor.
Led by Saripah Selamat, six dedicated DECE students honed their skills in behavioural assessment using methods like Anecdotal Record, Checklist, and Time Sampling. The hands-on session allowed them to observe and assess preschoolers’ behaviour, aligning classroom practices with real-world scenarios.
With 25 children engaged in the outdoor ‘Giant Bubble’ activity under the guidance of four kindergarten teachers, students received firsthand experience in experiential learning. The event culminated in a pool activity and students presenting their findings to the principal, who provided valuable feedback alongside the teachers.
Such practical experiences are invaluable for DECE students, equipping them with essential skills for future roles as early years educators. This initiative underscores SEGi University’s commitment to holistic education, bridging theory with practical application to empower students for impactful careers in early childhood education.
