On 8 October 2025, SEGi University’s Faculty of Engineering received notable recognition from the Institut Pengajian Pentadbiran dan Pengurusan (INSTAR) of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for its contribution to a defence innovation project that achieved national acclaim. The appreciation ceremony, held at the D’Nest VIP Lounge at Pangkalan Udara Sendayan, honoured SEGi’s role in advancing the development of the Rifle Shooting Board Rotator (RISBOR), an innovative prototype created as part of INSTAR’s 2025 innovation initiative.
The collaboration between SEGi University and INSTAR revolved around enhancing the RISBOR system with engineering precision and future-driven technology. Throughout the project’s development phase, SEGi lecturers and technical experts provided essential technical guidance, problem-solving insights and engineering expertise that helped shape the prototype into a more robust and intelligent system. A key enhancement came from the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) elements, strengthening RISBOR’s performance and marking a significant leap in the project’s technological capabilities.

To recognise this contribution, Lieutenant Colonel Junaidi bin Abdul Aziz (RMAF), Commandant of INSTAR, presented certificates of appreciation to SEGi’s engineering representatives. The team from SEGi University included Lt M Ir. Ts. Najmi Haziq bin Badrulhisam PSSTUDM as the team leader, together with Ir. Dr. Patrick Teo Hiu Hong, Dr. Fadzilah binti Adnan, Mr. Ahmad Fauze bin Rais and Mr. Ahmad Muiz bin Idzani. Their collective effort not only supported the technical evolution of the prototype but also demonstrated SEGi’s strength in applied engineering and industry collaboration.
The RISBOR innovation later secured third place in the Service Delivery (Improvement Category) at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Innovation Awards 2025, held on 12 September 2025 at the Air Warfare Centre Auditorium, Headquarters Air Operations Command. This accomplishment reflects how academic–military partnerships can drive impactful solutions while elevating national innovation capabilities.
This collaboration underscores SEGi University’s growing role as a trusted partner in advancing engineering, technology and defence innovation. Through continuous knowledge exchange and strategic engagements with key institutions, SEGi remains committed to developing the next generation of skilled engineers who contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s technological progress.
This initiative contributes to SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure dan SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
