SEGi recently hosted a vital Scam Awareness Talk in collaboration with UOB Malaysia, empowering students with practical knowledge to protect themselves in an increasingly digital and deceptive world. Held on 20 March 2025 at the Level 6 Auditorium, the session welcomed 40 participants and offered crucial insights into the latest fraud tactics, financial red flags, and real-world case studies — all tailored to equip young adults with the tools to stay vigilant and secure.
The rise in digital scams has become a global concern, with over USD 55 billion lost worldwide to online fraud in 2021 alone, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Malaysia too has seen a worrying surge in scam-related cases, especially among youth, who are often prime targets due to their active online presence and limited financial literacy. Events like this are crucial in bridging that knowledge gap and empowering future professionals with the awareness to safeguard their finances and identities.
