Persatuan Masyarakat Sungai Teku Aup Pasai Sibu (TEKU) visited SEGi University on 29 March 2024 to explore potential collaboration opportunities. This visit aimed to introduce the community to the diverse programmes and financial support offered by SEGi University, one of Malaysia’s largest private institutions of higher learning, with a focus on harnessing the potential of talented young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
The delegation from TEKU included notable figures such as Dr Chan MieowKee (Deputy Dean, Research), Chong HockSiong (Senior Lecturer, Electrical and Electronics Engineering), Dr Sia YawYong (Deputy Dean, Academic), Wong KeeSiong (Assistant Manager, Marketing), Ir Associate Prof Tan YongChai (Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology), Prof. ChM Dr. Sharon Teh Geok Bee (Vice Chancellor, SEGi University), Hii LiongTeck (Chairman, Teku Association), Dr Peter Chong KuokSiong (Health Advisor, Teku Association), Soh KehYew (Deputy Chairman, Teku Association), and other members of the Teku Association.
TEKU has been serving the community for over 30 years, organising yearly festive gatherings, health awareness drives, and fundraising initiatives for needy schools and churches. The association also supports community concerns presented to the municipality to improve overall well-being. TEKU’s committee comprises directors of companies and professionals, boasting over 300 members. Honourable advisors include Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, Dato Lau Ngie Hua, and YB Oscar Ling Chai Yew.
