SEGi University: At the Forefront of IIoT Innovation

SEGi University recently hosted a highly successful event on the transformative impact of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), organised by Dr. Fadzilah, Dr. Go Tze Fong, Dr. Jenny Ong, Ir. Ts. Mathan, and Ir. Dr. Patrick Teo. The event featured an insightful lecture by industrial expert Ir. Tong, attended by 35 students and four lecturers. Ir. Tong, a seasoned professional engineer, shared his extensive experience in automation and digitizing manufacturing processes, providing a comprehensive overview of IIoT and its core principles.

The lecture highlighted the seamless integration of smart devices and sensors in manufacturing, showcasing how IIoT is revolutionising the industry through real-time data collection and analysis. Ir. Tong navigated through case studies that demonstrated the optimization of manufacturing processes, illustrating the significant benefits of IIoT. According to MarketsandMarkets, the global IIoT market is expected to grow from USD 77.3 billion in 2020 to USD 110.6 billion by 2025, emphasising the critical importance of this technology in the future of manufacturing.

Key benefits of IIoT discussed included enhanced efficiency, predictive maintenance, and optimised supply chains. Manufacturers can streamline processes, reduce downtime, and boost productivity by connecting machines and systems into a digital ecosystem. Predictive maintenance, enabled by sensors and analytics, allows for scheduled upkeep, saving both time and money while ensuring operational continuity.
