Dr. Erum Zain, a Consultant Endodontist and Senior Lecturer from SEGi University, has joined forces with Dr. Okba Mahmoud of Ajman University (AU) for a significant collaborative research project that aims to advance dental education in the UAE. Dr. Mahmoud, a specialist in dentistry at AU, has been awarded an AU-funded research grant totalling AED 19,200 for the academic year 2024-25 to support their joint project, which explores the knowledge and application of root canal coding systems among dental students across UAE universities.
The project’s purpose is to conduct a comprehensive national survey that assesses dental students’ understanding and use of root canal coding systems in classifying root and canal morphology. This study will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of current dental education programmes, contributing to improved learning outcomes and standards in UAE dental schools. The initiative is also aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), by addressing crucial aspects of healthcare and educational quality within the dental field.
