SEGi University proudly announces that Md Saydur Rahman, an exceptional student, has secured a top 10 spot in the highly competitive MSSA Open Ideas Competition for Students (OIC-2024). This annual event, hosted by the Malaysian Structural Steel Association (MSSA) in collaboration with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd, challenges students to reimagine and revitalise the iconic Merdeka Stadium through innovative structural steel design.
Built in 1957 and originally seating 20,000 people, Merdeka Stadium holds historical significance as the site of Malaysia’s declaration of independence. The OIC-2024 competition not only seeks to honour this legacy but also aims to integrate modern sustainable practices into the stadium’s design. Participants were encouraged to explore the adaptability of steel in long-span structures with minimal columns, reflecting a commitment to durability and flexibility in construction. This aligns with the global goal set by the International Energy Agency (IEA) to reduce embodied carbon in building materials by 40% by 2030.
