SEGians Gain Key Insights at Law Conference

SEGi College Sarawak’s law students gained valuable insights at a recent law conference held during the Borneo ADR Week 2024. On 17th July 2024, students from the Diploma in Law programme, led by law lecturer Jonathan Tan, participated in a session titled “Bridging the Gap: Empowering Arbitration through Interim Measures and Judicial Support” at the Pullman Hotel in Kuching. This conference focused on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), a growing field in modern litigation that offers disputants a confidential and informal means of settling cases outside of court.

The session featured insights from prominent legal professionals, including moderator Clement Wong and speakers Deepak Mahadevan, Ahmad Fadzly bin Abdul Ghani, and Ryan Soo, the Vice President of the Sabah Law Society. Students not only learned about the practical aspects of arbitration and interim measures under the Arbitration Act 2005 but also reinforced their classroom knowledge on related topics such as injunctions and enforcement of awards. The presence of senior lawyers and court judges at the event provided a rare and invaluable networking opportunity for the students.
