Policy on Victim Support

INTRODUCTION

SEGi University is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to victims of modern slavery, forced labor, human trafficking, and child labor within our community. We recognise the critical importance of addressing the unique needs and vulnerabilities of individuals who have experienced exploitation, and we are committed to fostering an environment that promotes healing, recovery, and empowerment.

The Human Resource Department is the designated office responsible for reviewing, educating and advancing the compliance of the policy within our institution, with a designated official overseeing the matter across the organisation.

Policy Statements
  1. Immediate Response and Assistance: SEGi University is committed to providing immediate and appropriate assistance to victims upon identification. This includes ensuring their safety, access to medical care, and addressing immediate needs such as shelter, food, and clothing.
  2. Confidentiality and Privacy: All victim support services will be provided with the utmost respect for privacy and confidentiality. Information regarding the victim’s situation will only be shared on a need-to-know basis, and with the victim’s consent, unless required by law.
  3. Trauma-Informed Care: Support services will be delivered with a trauma-informed approach, recognising the potential impact of trauma on victims’ well-being. Our staff and resources are equipped to respond with sensitivity, empathy, and a focus on promoting healing and recovery.
  4. Access to Legal Assistance: Victims will be informed of their rights and provided with access to legal resources and assistance. SEGi will collaborate with relevant authorities and organisations to ensure that victims receive appropriate legal support.
  5. Counseling and Mental Health Services: Victims will be offered access to professional counseling and mental health services to address the psychological effects of their experiences. These services will be provided by qualified and experienced professionals.
  6. Referrals to Specialised Agencies: SEGi University will establish partnerships with specialised agencies and organisations that provide expertise in victim support, ensuring victims have access to a comprehensive network of resources.
  7. Education and Awareness: We are committed to raising awareness and educating the SEGi community about the signs of exploitation and available support services. This includes providing training and resources to staff and students.
