SEGi’s Academic Excellence Showcased at AILA 2024 – SEGi University

SEGi University made a significant impact at the 21st AILA World Congress 2024, held from August 11th to 16th at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). This prestigious event, celebrating AILA’s 60th anniversary, brought together 1,800 delegates from 75 countries, uniting global scholars under the theme “Linguistic Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Sustainability.”

Led by Professor Dr. Shameem Rafik-Galea, President of The Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics (MAAL) and Chairperson of the event, SEGi University’s Faculty of Education, Languages, Psychology, and Music (FoELPM) played a pivotal role in the Congress. The faculty’s presentations, which included insights on innovative teaching practices and translanguaging in ESL classrooms, aligned with the Congress’s focus on fostering inclusivity in language education. SEGi’s students also actively participated, contributing to discussions that emphasized the importance of linguistic diversity and sustainability.

This event showcased SEGi University’s commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration, highlighting its role in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The university’s contributions to AILA 2024 underscore its leadership in applied linguistics and its dedication to fostering a more inclusive and sustainable world.
