On 14 April 2023, SEGi University’s Dental Society (SDS) held an event at the Dictator Stage of the university campus for students and staff called Dynamic Fasting to share knowledge of how fasting can sustain our body’s health against climate change. A fundraiser was also conducted simultaneously to collect donations for the orphanage Pusat Jagaan Telaga Kasih Nur Muhammad (Rumah Amal) at Section 7, Kota Damansara.
The event booth consisted of an administrative section and a game section. The administrative section was in charge of promoting the event, collecting funds, and giving out prizes to the winners. The three games (crosswords, heads-up and a letter game), were related to the same topic of fasting and how it affects the health.
The first participants arrived at noon to play the games, and progressed as more students and staff joined and made donations. The game winners were given the chance to spin a wheel to either get toothpaste or free scaling vouchers as their prizes.
A short feedback form was shared with all the participants to record their basic information and their interest in getting a dental checkup at our dental facility. The crowd reached its peak between 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the event came to a close at 4.30 p.m., when the committee members had a short photography session and cleaned up the event venue before dismissal.
Of the seventy-one participants, thirty-seven winners received a free scaling voucher each, while twenty-six received toothpaste. The total amount of funds collected through cash and e-transactions was RM177, all of which were donated to the orphanage.
