THE DENTAL PROFESSIONAL QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (PQE) AT SEGi UNIVERSITY

WHAT IS PQE?

The Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) is a mandatory examination (in 3 components) for dental graduates to register with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) as practising dental surgeons. It evaluates knowledge, clinical skills, and professional conduct against national standards outlined in the Competencies of New Dental Graduates Malaysia.

INTEGRATION OF PQE COMPONENTS ONTO THE CURRICULUM

The Faculty of Dentistry at SEGi University has fully aligned its curriculum, teaching methods, and assessments with PQE standards. This ensures our graduates are trained and evaluated to the exact requirements set by the MDC, guaranteeing readiness for professional practice.

  • Component 1 (Theory Examination): Assessed during Years 1 to 5 through faculty examinations.
  • Component 2 (Pre-Clinical/Practical Skills): Conducted during Years 4 and 5.
  • Component 3 (Clinical/OSCE): Completed at the end of Year 5.

STRUCTURED COMPETENCY CHECK-POINTS

Students are assessed in a staggered and structured manner, building competence step by step

REDUCED PRESSURE

This approach reduces end-of-programme pressure while ensuring consistent quality and proficiency.

SEAMLESS TRANSITION INTO THE INDUSTRY

Upon graduation, graduates transition smoothly into professional practice, already accustomed to PQE standards.

GLOBAL STANDARDS

International students also benefit, as they are trained to the same level of proficiency required by the Malaysian PQE — strengthening their competitiveness and global career prospects.
